Learning, woven through play
We follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage — a play-based, observation-led approach that grows the whole child — enriched with warm values and future-ready STEAM.
Our approach
Children learn best when they feel safe, loved and free to wonder. Every day at KIDS is built on four beliefs:
Play is the driver
Child-initiated, adult-supported play is the main way little ones make sense of their world.
Enabling environments
Thoughtfully designed indoor & outdoor spaces, full of open-ended, natural resources that invite discovery.
Observation-led
Educators watch closely, then gently extend learning through questions, modelling and rich conversation.
Every child, their pace
Learning follows each child's stage and fascinations — never a one-size-fits-all timetable.
The seven areas of learning
The EYFS has three prime areas that underpin everything, and four specific areas that build on them.
Prime areas
Communication & Language
Listening, understanding and speaking — grown through stories, songs, rhymes and everyday conversation.
Physical Development
Big movements (running, climbing, balance) and small ones (threading, mark-making) plus healthy self-care.
Personal, Social & Emotional
Self-regulation, confidence, empathy and friendship — the heart-skills that matter most.
Specific areas
Literacy
Phonological awareness, early mark-making and a love of books through guided reading and story play.
Mathematics
Number, counting, shape, pattern and measure — discovered in blocks, baking and everyday play.
Understanding the World
People & communities, the natural world, and early technology — making sense of everything around them.
Expressive Arts & Design
Paint, music, dance and imaginative role-play that let big imaginations run free.
Learning in motion
The seven areas aren't a worksheet — they're a day full of movement, making, music and wonder. Tap a clip to watch.
A day at KIDS
A gentle rhythm of play, discovery, rest and routine — flexible to each child's engagement (a sample Discoverers day):
Arrival & welcome
Warm handovers, free-flow play and a friendly hello from each child's key person.
Circle time
Songs, the weather, and a peek at today's discovery — setting the tone together.
Child-led discovery
Play stations open — art, blocks, home corner, sensory, water — with small-group phonics or maths woven in.
Snack & story
A healthy snack, hand-washing and a shared story.
Outdoor play
Climbing, digging, wheels, nature and mud-kitchen adventures in the garden.
Family-style lunch
A freshly-made hot meal, self-serving skills and lots of happy chatter.
Quiet & rest
Calm music, naps for those who need them, and gentle activities for those who don't.
Afternoon projects & STEAM
A second play block plus Explorers Academy discovery — building, coding and creating.
Closing circle
Reflecting on the day, sharing favourite moments and a goodbye ritual.
Home time & extended care
Handover of photos and daily notes; calm activities for children in extended care.
How we track progress
No tests, no pressure — just careful watching, celebrating and gently nudging each child forward.
Everyday observations
Short notes, photos and videos capture what your child is doing, saying and learning during play — shared with you in real time through our parent app, where you can add moments from home too.
Learning journals
Each child has a personal digital portfolio of observations, photos and work samples, updated regularly and available to you 24/7 to view, treasure and comment on.
The two-year progress check
Between the ages of two and three, we share a short written summary of your child's progress across the three prime areas, with simple ideas to support them at home.
Termly reports & meetings
Each term you receive a personalised report across the seven areas, followed by a parent–teacher conversation to celebrate progress and plan next steps together.
Gentle transitions
When your child moves rooms or on to Big School, we prepare them with visits, stories and a detailed handover so the next step feels exciting, not scary.
Plus the Little Explorers Academy
On top of the EYFS, our signature STEAM enrichment layers in future-ready thinking — hands-on AI, robotics, engineering, math and science, brought to life across five imaginative worlds.
Earth
Plant, build and befriend nature as little planet detectives.
Sea
Float boats, meet marine life and splash through science.
Space
Build rockets, drive rovers and map the stars.
Underground
Dig for crystals, fossils and buried treasure.
Technology
Code, tinker and build a robot best friend.
